YNMA stresses importance of role of midwives in reducing childbirth-related mortality rates
In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day of Midwives, the association pointed to the importance of this occasion, which is celebrated by Yemen and the countries of the world this year under the slogan “Midwives: A vital solution to the climate” to highlight the vital roles played by midwives to ensure quality care for women and newborns, especially reducing mortality and achieving development goals related to ensuring good health.
It pointed to the importance of this occasion to introduce the midwifery profession and the challenges faced by Yemeni midwives. She appreciated their efforts in providing health care services and counseling for pregnant women and providing the necessary care for mothers and infants during childbirth and in emergency situations.
The statement pointed to the need to focus on improving the services provided by midwives, especially in remote areas and far from health facilities, and involving them in the implementation of national strategies for midwifery and maternal, newborn and child health.
It called for strengthening the partnership with the association to provide high-quality services, and directing more investments to improve the quality of education and training of midwives and enhance their competencies, leading to a reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality rates.
