RPC stresses the importance of enhancing cooperation and setting priorities for midwifery work

The Regional Professional Committee for Midwives for the Eastern Mediterranean discussed in its meeting today, chaired by Sabah Al-Dhafri, President of the National Association of Yemeni Midwives, the plan of the committee members for the year 2024, and the work priorities to enhance the midwifery profession in the region.

The meeting, which was held via video technology and included the committee team from the member countries, the President of the International Confederation of Midwives, Jacqueline Bennett, and the Senior Regional Coordinator and Governance, Lefke Henderlich, reviewed the arrangements of the Regional Committee to participate in the International Conference for the Eastern Mediterranean and Africa scheduled to be held during the current September to highlight the activities and work of the Committee and what has been achieved in the field of midwifery according to the ten pillars of the professional framework in the member states.

He touched on the three main priorities of the Committee for the year 2024, which include building a regional network for midwifery by holding regular meetings, forming working groups, and analyzing various aspects of the professional framework, including education and the enabling environment, and preparing a map for midwifery in the region.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of benefiting from the workshop held in Pakistan, to enhance the strategic direction in the field of midwifery, which would contribute to the advancement of this profession in the Asian region.

It stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between members to ensure continuous progress in the midwifery profession, and focusing on research, regulation, education and other pillars of the professional framework.
